January, 2006

It's the dawn of a new year and Terry Johnson's Flamingos are back on TV, back on stage, back in the news and back in the studio!

On TV:   The group is proud to be a part of the new PBS special "Doo Wop Cavalcade: The Definitive Anthology". They filmed the big show in Atlantic City, NJ on March 15th, 2005 and it seems that producers T.J. Lubinsky and Henry DeLuca have done it again! This installment of the 'My Music' public television series includes The Duprees, The Five Satins, The Cleftones, The Harptones and over a dozen more. On most TV broadcasts, you'll see Terry and company singing "Lovers Never Say Goodbye" with clips of "I'll Be Home" (acappella), "Love Walked In", "Mio Amore" and "I Only Have Eyes For You". PBS supporters who buy the 3-DVD set that is currently on-sale to PBS supporters, you'll get full versions of all 5 songs. Check your local PBS affiliate or go to Station Finder for air times!

On Stage:   Terry Johnson's Flamingos are always busy, but 2006 looks like its going to be a record year. To kick it off, after two private performances the first weekend in February, the group is being honored with a 50th Anniversary Party in beautiful Lighthouse Point, Florida. It was 1956 when Terry first joined Jake, Nate, Paul and Tommy to form what would become a lasting legacy. (A note to historians: Zeke was serving in the military at the time.) Well, its 50 years later - hard to believe - and it's time for a big party to celebrate! You can get all the details on how to join the group for this big bash at www.bridgesproductioncorp.com. Terry has asked the producers to keep the quality high and the cost to fans low so as many of their friends can attend as possible. It all takes place February 12, 2006 at the Chateau de Ville - expect white glove service, champagne at every table, and plenty of surprises - including a very special one-hour 50th Anniversary performance by... who else... Terry Johnson's Flamingos!

In the News:   After being honored by the R&B Foundation's Pioneer Award, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and countless other organizations, Terry has recently been awarded a very special honor by NARAS (the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences). In 2003, a mere 44 years after Terry and the group recorded "I Only Have Eyes For You", the recording industry awarded Terry the coveted Grammy Hall Of Fame Award for the recording. The Award was established by the Recording Academy's National Trustees in 1973 to honor recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old. Winners are selected annually by a special member committee of eminent and knowledgeable professionals from all branches of the recording arts. Terry is honored that just a few weeks ago, he finally received his official Award from the Academy.

In the Studio:   It was over 45 years ago that Terry Johnson last set foot in the recording studio with the Flamingos, and fans agree - it's been too long. Terry's die-hard followers know all about his recordings through the 60's and 70's on Atco and at Motown, but it took Terry's 50th Anniversary with the group to get Terry to go back and re-work some Flamingos classics as well as lay down some 'new old' songs that the Flamingos could have - but never did - record back in the good old days. Be sure to sign our Guestbook and include your thoughts about what songs you'd like to see on the new CD, due out in late 2006.

A personal note from Terry:
I want to thank all of you for your beautiful e-mails and guest book signings. It continues to warm my heart that you appreciate my efforts to keep this great music alive. I constantly hear that fans are still requesting Flamingos songs on the radio and calling concert promoters to request that they include us on their upcoming shows. We have learned that sometimes, the bookings for these shows depends on radio play and public request, so we thank you for your keeping us in limelight. Keep it up! We couldn't do it without you!

I'm so excited to be performing for those of you who come out to our concerts and even more thrilled that my new music is being heard around the world. Who would have thought that my CD single "Let's Be Lovers" would be a hit with Japanese audiences? If you haven't heard it yet, check it out... "Let's Be Lovers"

As you can see from this month's newsletter, I'm back in the studio working on my 50th Anniversary CD with my group and it's going to be great! There's still time to offer your input regarding your Flamingo favorites by signing by guestbook and registering for our e-newsletter.

Until then, I'll look forward to staying in touch with you here on my website - I can feel you and I appreciate you!

Yours Always,
Terry Johnson
